Decision Card · No. 07Organization and Management in the AI Era
AI Is Making Everyone Faster. Why Isn’t the Business Performing Better?
AI accelerates production, but it may push the bottleneck downstream—to review, coordination, and decision-making.
Individual Productivity ≠ Organizational Effectiveness
- AI accelerates content production
Individual tasks get faster.
- Documents and proposals multiply
Output appears to increase.
- Review, coordination, and decision-making become the new bottlenecks
The second half of the workflow still moves at human speed.
- Delivery and business outcomes do not improve
Do not look only at the “adoption-and-output ledger.” Look at the “process-and-outcome ledger.”
For business leaders
Do not focus only on AI adoption and output. Follow one business workflow and examine delivery, decisions, quality, and business outcomes. If the results have not improved, find the bottleneck first—then decide where AI belongs.
For managers
Do not report that “output is up 300%.” Submit a process-and-outcome ledger: which low-value outputs were stopped, which waits were shortened, how much rework was reduced, and what result ultimately changed.
