When You Let AI Screen Résumés, People Start Writing Résumés for AI
Defend the input side: the material is the same, but its role has changed.
- The input is manipulated
- Humans and AI see different content
- The screening result may be distorted
Two-sided sampling: sample both accepted and rejected outcomes.
For business leaders
Do not ask only whether AI judges accurately. Ask who controls the input and what they stand to gain from manipulating it. The less trustworthy the input and the more consequential the decision, the less autonomy AI should have to approve or reject independently.
For managers
Do not submit only a feature description. Explain who controls the input, where manipulation may occur, how far AI should go, and how accepted and rejected outcomes will each be sampled.
