Decision Card · No. 05AI Adoption and Business Decisions
The Work You Most Want to Hand Over to AI May Be the Work You Can Least Afford to Let Go
Begin with business value: if this works, which metric will actually change?
| Current condition | AI can begin with | People remain responsible for |
|---|---|---|
| Standards are not yet consistent | Organizing and classifying | Judgment and decisions |
| Standards can be evaluated, but risk still requires human control | Drafting and recommending | Confirmation before use |
| Standards are clear, evaluation passes, risk is controlled, and handoffs work | Taking over a controlled portion | Continued sampling and escalation of exceptions |

Authority expands through validation, and every exception needs a human owner.
For business leaders
Do not ask only which process can use AI. Ask how much authority you can safely hand over now. The clearer the standards, the more verifiable the result, and the more recoverable the error, the further autonomy can expand.
For managers
Submit a staged delegation plan: what AI does first, where a person confirms, which conditions require human takeover, and what standards must be met before autonomy expands.
